In the series of works Untitled-Landscape Schuchard’s goal is to present the viewer with a visual depiction of a transient mysterious space that lies somewhere between representation and abstraction – light, form, and specificity in nature. vs. the conventions of abstract painting.   The images begin from a specific source but quickly become about light and form and how form can build a painting.  The pieces become all about the visual experience for the viewer and release themselves from any specificity.  While they may be a depiction of things in nature, they are not about trees or water or sky but rather about paint and experience.

Alex Schuchard is originally from St. Louis, MO.  He received a BFA in painting from Washington University in St. Louis and an MFA from The University of Delaware.  He has lived and worked in New York City since 1999.
